Fayette Police Department records state that reports of gunshots fired sent officers to the 5200 block of N. Sumac Circle around 9:35 p.m. Investigators later established that Cheri Smith, 50, along with her adult daughter Amanda Smith, 23, and her adult son Erin Poole, 29, were within their house when a dispute erupted including a well-known acquaintance, Nijyle Lewis, 25, Fayetteville.

Several gunshots were fired and a stabbing happened during the brawl. Cheri Smith and Erin Poole were discovered gunshot wounds when police and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the house. Both were horribly declared dead on the site. Suffering from gunshot wounds as well, Amanda Smith was brought to a nearby hospital where she later died from her wounds.

After running to a neighboring home for assistance, Nijyle Lewis was discovered with numerous stab wounds and taken to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition. Having examined witness testimonies, security footage, and 9-1-1 calls, investigators from the Homicide Unit of the Fayetteville Police Department, working closely with the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office, have charged Lewis with three counts of first-degree murder. Warrants will be delivered as he stays under medical attention. Authorities have verified this was a one-off event and that there is no present danger to the neighborhood.

Beyond the inquiry and legal processes is a great human loss.

Mother Cheri Smith lived mostly on love, family, and caring for her kids. She was a pillar of strength, a safeguard, and a compass.
