After a car collided with the McNamara Terminal on Friday night, an event officials believe might have been a deliberate act related to a suicide attempt, authorities are looking into a horrible occurrence at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.
Witnesses said the car sped through a gate near the terminal check-in area and slammed into a Delta Air Lines service counter, with airport employees present. The explosion generated a strong boom that reverberated throughout the terminal, immediately drawing the notice of personnel and passengers.
Eyewitness testimonies indicated the driver emerged from the car moments later with his hands raised and talking, though it wasn't immediately evident what he was saying or his circumstances at the moment.
Within seconds, airport police and TSA personnel reacted almost immediately, cordoning the scene and apprehending the driver. Travelers characterized the reaction as quick and well-co-ordinated, therefore avoiding additional harm within the busy terminal.
Traveler Ali Khalifa, who was within the terminal at the time, said, "The response was really quick." Immediately present were TSA and police. All of it took place very fast.
