Demario Conner Jr. Memorial Announcement: Youth Killed by Gunfire in Anguilla; Two Individuals Detained

 The community is grieving the untimely death of Demario Conner Jr., 19, who was shot and killed on Friday night in Anguilla, Sharkey County. Conner was declared deceased at the location by Sharkey County Coroner Robert Barfield Jr.

On Saturday morning, the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department revealed that they have taken two individuals into custody in relation to the shooting. The identities of the suspects have not been disclosed, and the investigation into the incident is still active.

Sheriff’s deputies called upon anyone with knowledge of the situation to step forward, stating:

"We encourage anyone who has relevant information regarding this incident to reach out to the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department. Your assistance could be crucial in providing closure and justice for the family."

Conner was an accomplished football player at South Delta High School, who graduated in 2025, and he had accepted a football scholarship to play at Mississippi Delta Community College within that same year. Friends, family, and the local community remember him as an exceptional athlete and a cherished member of the community whose life ended far too early.

The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are persistently collecting information as they aim to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
