 A boy aged 11 has been accused of homicide for allegedly shooting and fatally wounding his adoptive father in Duncannon Borough, situated in Perry County, Pennsylvania. This event took place early Tuesday morning, leading to an intervention from Pennsylvania State Police, who arrived at the home on South Market Street around 3 a.m. They discovered 42-year-old Douglas Dietz deceased from a gunshot wound to his head. The young individual, named Clayton W. Dietz, has been apprehended and is facing homicide charges, presenting a tragic and extraordinary situation involving such a young individual.

Police documentation and court filings indicate that the incident's background dates back to the prior day, which was Clayton's 11th birthday. Eyewitness accounts suggest he had been enjoying a celebration the night before. However, an argument erupted when his father took away his Nintendo Switch, which made the boy unhappy. After being instructed to go to sleep, Clayton looked throughout the house for the gaming console and allegedly located the keys to a firearm safe. He then acquired a revolver, loaded it, cocked it, and shot his father. The reasoning behind the act seems to be associated with this conflict over the video game, although officials have not provided an official statement elaborating on the motive beyond mentioning the disagreement.

The victim’s spouse, Jillian Dietz, conveyed the details to the authorities, mentioning that she was roused shortly after midnight by a loud sound. She found her husband unresponsive and covered in blood at the location. Upon entering the room, she observed that her husband had suffered a gunshot. Clayton then came in and shouted, “Daddy’s dead,” before rushing downstairs and repeating the same words. Subsequently, police reports indicate that Clayton admitted to both his mother and the officers, declaring, “I killed Daddy,” and expressed regret by saying, “I hate myself.”

Clayton, who became part of the family in 2018, displayed visible injuries, such as a bruise above his left eye and a cut on his lip, which law enforcement noted during their inquiry. When he was presented in court, Judge Richard Gibney refused bail, and Clayton was placed in Perry County Prison.
