Lawrence authorities have named 18-year-old Aidan Joseph Knowles as the individual who lost his life in a shooting incident early Saturday morning outside the Jayhawk Cafe, a favored bar among college students in downtown Lawrence, Kansas. The event took place just after 1:50 a.m. near the closing hour at the Jayhawk Cafe, situated at 1340 Ohio St., often referred to as The Hawk. Police acted swiftly upon receiving reports of gunfire and discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot injuries, reportedly on the patio close to the bar’s principal entrance on the west side.

Aidan Knowles, who lived in the Lawrence area, was declared dead at the location. The 16-year-old was transported by ambulance to LMH Health in serious condition. A radio transmission revealed that the teenager sustained a single gunshot wound to his left chest without an exit wound and remained conscious and responsive during the trip. He was later moved to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, where his status was reported to be stable. Further updates from his family have not been disclosed.

Aidan’s father, Bobby Knowles, confirmed the tragedy of his son’s death via a Facebook message, noting that the injured teenager was one of Aidan’s close companions.

“Sadly, the information is accurate. Our son, Aidan, was shot and killed outside a bar in Lawrence early yesterday morning,” he stated. “One of his close friends was also shot and, by the grace of God, managed to survive against the odds. We have come to understand that our son was merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. We are utterly heartbroken.”

Two suspects, both aged 18, have been taken into custody and face charges related to the shooting. Daitron Lamont Daniels, from Shawnee, faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated assault. Caiden Carl Ralph Clem, from Atchison, is facing charges of felony murder and aggravated assault. Both individuals have been detained at the Douglas County Jail without bond.
