 A suspect has been taken into custody after a double murder resulted in the deaths of two individuals early Sunday in Ambridge, as reported by the police.

Officers from the Ambridge Police Department were sent to the vicinity of the 300 block on Locust Street around 2:30 a.m. following multiple accounts of gunfire reported in the area.

An eyewitness told the police that the gunshots seemed to have originated from a nearby home.

Upon their entry into the house, the officers found two victims—a male and a female—who each sustained several gunshot injuries.

Both victims were declared dead at the location.

Law enforcement identified the deceased as 54-year-old Andre Littles from Pittsburgh and 38-year-old Ashley Anne Delucca from Ambridge.

Authorities quickly pinpointed a suspect and issued an alert to nearby law enforcement organizations.

Around 8:37 a.m., the Ohio State Highway Patrol informed Ambridge police that the suspect was captured after a vehicular accident in Zanesville, Ohio.

The suspect was revealed to be 39-year-old Howard James Thomas Jr. from Ambridge.

He was taken to a local hospital for medical attention prior to being placed under arrest.

According to police, Thomas was detained based on a warrant that charged him with two counts of murder.

Ambridge Mayor Tina Iorfido-Schmidt released a statement offering her condolences and reassured the community that there is no continuing threat. In her message, she expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate loss of life and conveyed her sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims.

She also expressed gratitude to the police officers, first responders, and investigators for their commitment and professionalism, highlighting that the probe continues to progress.

Officials stressed that there is currently no risk to the public.
