Reginald K. Howard and Marcedo Allen McNeil Incident: Deadly Collision Documented, Two Individuals Lost Their Lives in a Blaze-Engulfed, Rapid Accident that Resulted in a Loss of Electricity after Colliding with a Tree in Sampson County

Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic single-vehicle accident that took place just outside a small town near Garland on Saturday evening, as reported by state law enforcement. The mishap involved a sport utility vehicle that departed from the roadway, struck roadside structures, and ultimately collided with a tree before bursting into flames.

Emergency responders were sent to the location shortly after reports of a critical accident were made during the early evening hours along a state highway to the east of Garland. Upon arrival, troopers found a badly damaged SUV that was on fire adjacent to a large tree. The extensive fire damage made initial evaluations challenging.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the SUV was speeding eastward prior to the incident. At a certain point, the operator lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road to the right. In efforts to regain control, the driver oversteered, resulting in the SUV crossing the roadway toward the opposite side.

Officials indicated that the vehicle then entered a ditch by the roadside. After rebounding from the ditch, the SUV collided forcefully with a utility pole. This collision caused the pole to fall, taking down nearby power lines. Following the impact, the vehicle continued forward and ultimately crashed into a tree. Moments later, the SUV ignited, leading to substantial damage and trapping the occupants inside.

Both persons within the vehicle were declared dead at the scene. One was identified as the operator, while the other was a passenger. Due to the intense fire and the extensive destruction, investigators were unable to ascertain whether the individuals had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The crash resulted in a temporary interruption of electrical services in the vicinity. A local utility company was informed and arrived at the scene to repair the damaged utility pole and restore the fallen power lines. Crews collaborated with emergency personnel to secure the area for motorists and residents nearby.

Traffic on the impacted roadway experienced delays for several hours while investigators documented the accident scene and utility workers performed necessary repairs. Law enforcement officials advised drivers to exercise caution and consider alternate routes while crews remained present.

State troopers are still examining the factors surrounding the incident. While it is believed that speeding played a role, officials noted that the investigation is ongoing, and further information may be disclosed once the inquiry is concluded.

Authorities took this opportunity to remind drivers about the risks of excessive speed and the necessity of safe driving behaviors. They emphasized that losing control of a vehicle at high speeds significantly raises the likelihood of fatal accidents, especially when encountering roadside hazards such as ditches, utility poles, and trees.
