Authorities are seeking clarity after a lethal incident transpired in the small northern New South Wales town of Eungella, positioned west of Murwillumbah, on Wednesday afternoon. One individual has lost his life, another is healing from a gunshot wound, and a third is injured due to being hit by a vehicle, as investigators try to link the occurrences.

Fatal Shooting on Farmland

Rescue personnel were initially summoned to a rural location in Eungella just before 1:30 p.m., following alerts about two men, aged 41 and 38, suffering gunshot wounds.

Per police reports, these men were reportedly shot by a third man who tried to escape the scene with a fourth individual.

Emergency medical staff worked on the 41-year-old man, but he succumbed to his injuries at the location despite attempts to save him. The 38-year-old, who survived, subsequently went to a hospital to receive treatment for his gunshot injury. Details regarding his health condition have not been publicly shared.

Third Person Discovered Injured Nearby

Shortly after the shooting, authorities received another call stating that a 45-year-old man had been struck by a vehicle close by. Officers suspect that this incident is related to the earlier violence.

The injured man was transported to the hospital and is currently receiving medical care under police supervision while officials try to ascertain his potential involvement in the situation at the property.

Search for Fourth Person

Law enforcement is actively looking for a 37-year-old individual who left the vicinity and is thought to possess significant information regarding the investigation. Authorities urge this person to step forward and request that the public provide any sightings or relevant information.

Extensive Police Action, Road Closures

The operation has engaged forensic experts, detectives, and the NSW Police Dog Squad, which spent Wednesday afternoon searching both the property and the nearby wilderness.

A significant stretch of Tyalgum Road, from Kellys Road to Old Lismore Road, has been closed off as police continue their work. Residents are advised to steer clear of the area and anticipate delays.

Ongoing Investigation

Detectives are now waiting to interview the two surviving injured individuals to understand how the shooting and the following car incident transpired.

Authorities maintain an open perspective as they investigate potential motives, the relationships among the individuals involved, and whether these events are part of a larger conflict.

Officials encourage anyone with information, dashcam recordings, or who may have observed suspicious actions in the region to reach out to law enforcement without delay.
