DeKalb County officials indicated that deputies arrived at the vicinity of Captain’s Point Road in the pre-dawn hours of December 4 and found Dr. McKinzie suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Beside her was her loaded and ready handgun. An adult male, 27-year-old Todd C. Stanton, was present at the location. Authorities have reported that a firearm registered to Stanton was found on the hood of his vehicle, and he is cooperating with the investigation. Currently, there are no criminal charges against anyone, and inquiries into the details surrounding this unfortunate incident continue.
