The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) has apprehended and charged an individual linked to the deadly shooting incident that occurred at the MGM National Harbor on Wednesday. The 22-year-old suspect, Benjamin Williams from Fort Washington, faces charges in connection with the death of 23-year-old Darnell Hawkins Jr., who was a resident of Washington, D.C.
Shooting Took Place Late Wednesday Morning
The event unfolded on December 3, 2025, around 11:55 a.m., when law enforcement arrived in response to gunfire at the MGM National Harbor. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered Hawkins on the ground with multiple gunshot injuries. He was declared deceased at that location.
Suspect Identified Through Investigative Procedures
According to the police, PGPD’s Homicide Unit employed “a variety of investigative strategies” to pinpoint Williams as the shooter. Detectives promptly obtained an arrest warrant, and by Thursday morning, the department's Fugitive Unit found and apprehended Williams without any issues.
Williams is now facing charges for first-degree and second-degree murder, along with several related offenses. He is currently being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections with no bond available.
Connection Between Suspect and Victim Being Examined
Detectives suspect that Williams and Hawkins were acquaintances before the incident, although the motivation behind the shooting is still being explored. Additional information regarding what may have triggered this fatal incident has not been disclosed by the police.
