The Hutchinson community is mourning the devastating loss of Darick Navarro, aged 47, who tragically passed away Tuesday afternoon in an accident involving a train and a UPS delivery truck in Reno County.

Navarro, who lived in Hutchinson, lost his life around 3 p.m. near the crossroads of Highway 50 and South Woodberry Road, in close proximity to Burrton, situated on the Reno County side of the Reno-Harvey County boundary. As reported by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, Navarro was the sole occupant of the UPS truck when a train heading northwest collided with it.

Reno County Sheriff Darrian Campbell noted that the train, which was powered by two locomotives and carried 54 freight cars, struck the delivery truck while it was moving southwest over the tracks. Authorities have confirmed that neither the engineer nor the conductor of the train suffered any injuries during the incident.
