A student at Ross S. Sterling High School has passed away after sustaining injuries from a confrontation in a classroom on Wednesday morning, as confirmed by authorities.
According to the Baytown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene following a report of a stabbing at roughly 10:42 a.m. KPRC 2 later verified that the event took place during a conflict within a classroom at Ross S. Sterling High School.
Authorities indicated that there were two male students involved in the conflict. One student stabbed the other with a pair of scissors during this incident. The individual who is suspected is 18 years old, while the victim was underage. Both were enrolled at the school.
After the incident, the injured student was taken by ambulance and subsequently airlifted to the Texas Medical Center via Life Flight. The Baytown Fire Department stated that conditions prevented the helicopter from landing on school grounds, necessitating the student’s transport to Baytown Airport before the airlift. Despite attempts to save him, the student unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Authorities confirmed his passing around 3:35 p.m.

In the aftermath of the event, Ross S. Sterling High School was placed on a brief lockdown as a safety measure. Officials from Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District reported that they informed the parents of both students involved. The lockdown was eventually lifted, with the district assuring that there was no ongoing danger to students or staff on the premises.
The Goose Creek CISD Police Department is overseeing the inquiry. In a statement issued around 3:45 p.m., the department confirmed the death of the student and noted that the other student involved remains in police custody. Officials mentioned that further details would not be disclosed throughout the ongoing criminal investigation and encouraged the community to support the students, staff, and particularly the family of the deceased student.
Later, at about 4:30 p.m., Goose Creek CISD emphasized that they would not disclose the identities of the students involved in light of the ongoing investigation and the confidentiality stipulations set forth by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The district acknowledged that public records pertaining to the criminal case might be accessible through law enforcement and county officials.
