Albuquerque Individual Detained for Homicide of Two, Asserts That a Cockroach Instructed Him to Carry Out the Act

 A 25-year-old individual from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was apprehended following the alleged murder of two men within a home, later revealing to law enforcement that a cockroach had commanded him to commit the acts. The alarming event occurred when deputies arrived in response to reports of gunfire, discovering two male victims who had sustained both gunshot and stab injuries, while three other adults and two children were present in the house.

Alexis Hernandez, the accused, recounted a sequence of bizarre and irrational occurrences he claimed preceded the murders. He informed the police that he thought the owner of the residence had been stalking him and placing hidden cameras in various locations throughout the house. Hernandez asserted that such actions intensified his paranoia. He went on to explain that he had received “a coded message through a cockroach,” which supposedly instructed him to eliminate the property owner, along with signs and voices that supported his conviction that the act was justified.

During discussions with law enforcement, Hernandez expressed that he was “terrified for his safety” and felt that the two men were a danger to him. He confessed to shooting one person in the head and the other in the kitchen, subsequently reloading his firearm and firing at each victim again. Hernandez recognized that the children present in the house were witnesses to the incidents but claimed he had no desire to harm them.

Hernandez is presently facing two charges of murder. A judge has mandated that he stay in custody due to the violent characteristics of the offenses and the troubling specifics that have come to light during the inquiry. Law enforcement officials continue to assess the suspect's mental condition as they deal with the shocking event.
