Cause of Death and Obituary for Luke Gehlhausen of Dubois County, Indiana: We are grieving deeply and with heavy hearts as we share the awful death of one of our own. Luke Gehlhausen, 41, a loyal and valued 17-year veteran of the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department, passed away on the evening of September 7th while on duty while attending to an emergency call.
Luke was tragically murdered in a single-vehicle collision at approximately 7:15 PM while driving his own vehicle to the scene of a reported building fire. As always, Luke responded with the courage, briskness, and selflessness that defined his personality and his service.
Luke was not only a firefighter but also a father, brother, son, wife, and friend to many. He was a pillar of the Celestine community, known for his unwavering commitment to service, warmth, and diligence. He spent 17 years of his life protecting and helping others around him, constantly prioritizing the needs of others over his own.
During this difficult time, we respectfully ask that you keep Luke's wife, children, parents, sister, and entire extended family in your thoughts and prayers. The days ahead will be tough, and their loss is enormous. May they find strength in the love and support of their community, and comfort in the memories of a man who lived with honor and purpose.
For their response and assistance during this regrettable situation, we also wish to sincerely thank the Deaconess Memorial Hospital EMS Service, the Dubois County Sheriff's Department, the Indiana State Police, and the Uebelhor and Sons Wrecker Service. We truly appreciate your assistance and generosity throughout this disaster.
Luke's impact will last beyond his years of service because of the friendships he formed, the lives he changed, and his love for his family and community. He enjoyed serving and protecting people, and he passed away doing so. And for that, we will always be grateful.
Information on services will be shared as soon as it becomes available. Luke Gehlhausen, on the other hand, is noted as a hero, a servant, and a man whose life embodied the finest principles of service. Brother, we have the watch from here. Peace be with you.
