In Loving Memory: Fergus Falls's Loyal Track Official Scott Engfer, Died Suddenly

Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Scott Engfer, the racing community, and the town of Fergus Falls are in shock over his untimely death. Unfortunately, Scott passed away in an accident while doing what he loved—at the racetrack, where he enjoyed being. He was not just a track official but also a loyal husband, a brave soldier, and a true friend to many. His presence, his laugh, and his firm touch will be missed.

In April, Scott was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Never one to give up, he addressed this assignment with calm power and resolve. He had begun oral and intravenous chemotherapy in late May and was looking forward to his final chemotherapy treatment on September 22. Throughout his battle, Scott remained loyal to his beliefs. Despite his treatments and fatigue, he continued to work, serve, and show up, especially at the track.

Last night, everything was different. On what should have been a normal race night, tragic things happened. Scott, who is always alert for danger and is often the first to tell others to slow down or be careful, was riding his four-wheeler when he got into the line of an oncoming race car. In a moment, he was gone from us. It was unexpected. It was catastrophic. And many people were heartbroken by that.

He found enjoyment in the presence of those he loved, where he passed away. In many ways, he spent his final moments doing what he had always done: lending a hand to others, making sure race evenings ran smoothly, and making a difference for something greater than himself.

Our hearts are heavy for the Engfer family, particularly his wife and other loved ones. Please keep them in your prayers and thoughts as they cope with an unimaginable tragedy. We also thank the driver involved, the track crew, and all other witnesses to the crash. This kind of trauma does not just go away; may the days ahead be characterized by calm, grace, and unwavering support.

To know Scott was to know silent force, compassion, and commitment. Even though he might not have sought limelight, his work behind the scenes at the track, at home, and in life made a positive impact on everyone around him. His absence will affect every lap, every race, and every moment spent at the track.

Lord, we ask that there be peace in this neighborhood. May Scott's memories bring comfort even when the loss feels insurmountable. We pray that he is now pain-free in the arms of the One who bestows eternal rest.

Engfer, Scott Best of luck.

Your legacy lives on, even if your seat at the track is empty.

We will miss you more than words can say and remember you with deep affection.
