Authorities in Fort Wayne, Indiana, have now released the official findings in the death of 75-year-old Anita Grayson, who died shortly after a physical altercation inside a Tim Hortons restaurant. While the medical examiner has identified the medical cause of her death, the investigation remains significant because officials could not definitively classify how the death occurred under standard legal categories.

The Allen County Coroner's Office determined that Grayson died from acute exacerbation of congestive heart failure in the setting of a physical altercation. Her manner of death was officially listed as undetermined, meaning investigators could not conclude that the death was natural, accidental, or a homicide based on the available medical and investigative evidence. That classification does not assign criminal responsibility but instead reflects that the circumstances do not fit neatly into one specific legal category.

The incident dates back to the morning of May 13, when police say Grayson entered a Tim Hortons in Fort Wayne after becoming upset about her drive-thru order. According to investigators, she confronted a 17-year-old employee before a 20-year-old shift manager stepped in and instructed her to leave the restaurant. Surveillance video later released by the Fort Wayne Police Department captured portions of the confrontation and became an important piece of the investigation.

According to police, the encounter escalated after the shift manager briefly touched Grayson while attempting to intervene. Investigators allege Grayson then pushed the manager and struck her in the face, knocking off her glasses. The confrontation quickly intensified into a physical struggle involving both women. Police said Grayson grabbed the manager by the hair, pulling her to the floor, while other employees attempted to separate them.
