The community is mourning the heartbreaking and sudden loss of Mary, a young girl whose life ended just days after she was treated twice at Dauphin Regional Health Centre following a tobogganing accident that left her with a broken arm and growing concerns that would later turn into an unimaginable tragedy for her family and loved ones.

Mary’s Death After Two ER Visits in Manitoba

According to family members, Mary was first taken to the emergency room on March 16 after injuring her arm. They say she was diagnosed with a fracture, placed in a sling, and discharged without being seen by a physician or given a detailed treatment plan, leaving the family believing the injury was stable despite her ongoing pain and discomfort at home.

In the days that followed, her condition reportedly did not improve. On March 20, she returned to the same hospital as her symptoms worsened, and relatives say she was again provided with a sling and sent home without medication or additional medical intervention, a decision that the family now questions deeply as they search for answers about what happened during those critical days.

By March 21, Mary’s condition had taken a severe turn. Family members noticed alarming signs including discoloration, unusual symptoms, and distress, prompting emergency responders to be called to the home, but despite rapid response efforts, she passed away before further medical treatment could be provided, leaving her loved ones in shock and disbelief.

The cause of death has not yet been officially determined, and Manitoba’s chief medical examiner has launched a full investigation, including an authorized autopsy requested by the family, as officials work to understand whether complications from the injury or other medical factors contributed to her sudden passing.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are also involved in reviewing the circumstances surrounding the case, while health officials have expressed condolences and stated that they are awaiting the results of the ongoing investigations before making further comments about the care provided and the sequence of events leading up to her death.

Community leaders, including representatives from the Southern Chiefs’ Organization, have called for transparency and a thorough review of the medical response, emphasizing that the family deserves clear answers and that the case raises broader concerns about access to appropriate healthcare and timely treatment in similar situations.

As investigations continue, Mary’s family is left grieving an unimaginable loss while hoping that the findings will bring clarity and accountability, not only to honor her memory but also to help ensure that other families do not face the same unanswered questions and heartbreaking outcome in the future.
