Florida Couple Rosa Tiru and Lance Mulonas Arrested After Alleged Confrontation With Teen During Home Drop-Off

 A Florida couple has been arrested following a violent confrontation that police say began after they mistakenly believed a teenage boy was an adult man when he dropped off their daughter at their home in a suburban neighborhood, according to authorities and court documents released this week.

According to investigators, 45-year-old Rosa Tiru and 61-year-old Lance Mulonas permitted their 15-year-old daughter to attend an overnight gathering that began June 20 and continued into June 21, before a teenage boy later drove her back home and arrived at the residence in the afternoon hours.

Police say that as the teen pulled into the driveway around 3 p.m., a white van allegedly pulled in behind his vehicle, blocking it from leaving and escalating the situation almost immediately in what investigators described as a sudden and frightening encounter for the teenager inside the car.

Investigators allege that Lance Mulonas exited the van carrying a metal pipe and approached the teenager’s vehicle, striking the roof repeatedly while the boy remained inside and tried to understand what was happening outside his car.

The situation escalated further when Mulonas allegedly produced a knife and held it to the teen’s throat, according to the affidavit, turning what had been confusion into a life-threatening confrontation inside the driveway.

Tiru allegedly came outside waving a firearm and contacted emergency services, telling dispatchers that her daughter had been dropped off by an adult man rather than a minor, as the confrontation continued to unfold in the driveway.

The teenager was eventually able to escape after the van was moved, driving to a nearby gas station where he met his mother and contacted law enforcement, with his mother later telling 911 that two adults had assaulted her son and threatened him during the incident.

Tiru was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault, while Mulonas faces multiple charges including aggravated child abuse, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal mischief as investigators continue reviewing the case and evidence collected from the scene and witness statements. The incident has drawn strong attention in the local community, where residents expressed concern about how quickly a misunderstanding escalated into violence involving a teenager who was simply returning a friend home. Officials have not released additional information regarding potential court dates or further legal actions, but authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Law enforcement emphasized that all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as the judicial process moves forward. 

Community members have described shock and disbelief over the severity of the confrontation, noting that the situation has sparked broader discussions about conflict response, communication, and safety in residential neighborhoods.
