Fatal Dispute at Ramona-Mathison Lake Park

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged 25-year-old Devion Sneed with first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, stealing a firearm, and multiple counts of armed criminal action following the deadly shooting that shocked the community. Prosecutors say the charges reflect the severity of the incident and the number of victims involved, as investigators continue building their case.

Authorities identified the victim as 24-year-old Lamonte Keys, who was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck during the exchange of gunfire. Officials say his death has deeply impacted those who knew him, as friends and relatives struggle to come to terms with the sudden and violent loss during what was meant to be a joyful birthday celebration.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving children playing near the water at the park, which escalated from an argument into a physical confrontation before shots were fired. Witness statements and early evidence suggest that multiple individuals who knew each other became involved in the altercation, leading to the deadly outcome.

Three women were also injured in the incident and transported to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for varying degrees of injuries. Officials have not released detailed updates on their conditions, but confirmed that all surviving victims are expected to recover as the investigation into the shooting continues.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers secured the park and collected evidence as part of an ongoing investigation. Authorities say they obtained an arrest warrant shortly after identifying the suspect, who was later taken into custody and is currently being held on a significant bond pending further court proceedings.

Officials continue to review witness statements, forensic evidence, and surveillance footage as they work to determine the full sequence of events. Prosecutors emphasized that the case remains active, and additional charges or details may emerge as investigators build a complete picture of what occurred at the park.

The Berkeley community has been left shaken by the violence, as residents reflect on how a celebration meant to bring people together ended in tragedy. Local leaders and neighbors continue to call for peace, accountability, and stronger efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future while supporting the families affected. Many residents also expressed concern about public safety in shared community spaces and the importance of de-escalation during moments of tension.

Vigils and small gatherings are expected in the coming days as people come together to remember the life lost and support those recovering physically and emotionally from the shooting while seeking healing and understanding as the investigation continues forward together healing.
