According to responding agencies, the crash occurred around 2:47 p.m. on April 5, 2026, along County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South. Investigators say a white 2018 BMW, driven by 21-year-old Hunter Cooper, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when control of the vehicle was lost after crossing into Wells County.

Authorities believe the vehicle veered across the center line before striking a utility pole on the passenger side with tremendous force. The impact snapped the pole in half, a stark indication of the severity of the crash. Following the collision, the vehicle rolled into a nearby field, leaving a scene that emergency responders described as catastrophic.
