The Hartford City community is mourning the devastating loss of 19-year-old Gavyn Orlando, whose life was tragically cut short in a violent crash Sunday afternoon in Wells County. The suddenness of the incident has left family, friends, and neighbors grappling with grief, as they try to process a loss that feels both shocking and deeply unfair.

Gavyn Orlando Remembered as Hartford City

According to responding agencies, the crash occurred around 2:47 p.m. on April 5, 2026, along County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South. Investigators say a white 2018 BMW, driven by 21-year-old Hunter Cooper, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when control of the vehicle was lost after crossing into Wells County.

Authorities believe the vehicle veered across the center line before striking a utility pole on the passenger side with tremendous force. The impact snapped the pole in half, a stark indication of the severity of the crash. Following the collision, the vehicle rolled into a nearby field, leaving a scene that emergency responders described as catastrophic.

Gavyn Orlando, who was inside the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passing has left an unfillable void in the lives of those who knew him, as loved ones struggle to come to terms with the loss of someone so young and full of potential.

The driver, Cooper, sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Another passenger, 20-year-old Anthony Dalley of Montpelier, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and also taken to a hospital with injuries. The extent of their conditions has not been fully disclosed.

First responders from multiple agencies, including the Wells County Sheriff’s Office, worked quickly to secure the scene, provide medical assistance, and begin the early stages of the investigation. Their coordinated efforts reflected the urgency and seriousness of the situation as they responded to the aftermath of the crash.

As investigators continue to examine the circumstances, factors such as speed, vehicle control, and road conditions are expected to be carefully reviewed. Each detail will play a role in understanding how the crash unfolded and whether any contributing elements can be identified.

For the Hartford City community, the focus now shifts to remembering Gavyn Orlando not for the tragedy that took him, but for the life he lived. Friends describe him as someone who brought energy, laughter, and connection to those around him—qualities that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In the days ahead, the community stands united in grief and support, offering prayers and condolences to Gavyn’s family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, serving as a lasting reminder of how precious and fragile life can be.
