Three lives were tragically lost following a devastating car accident Saturday night in Columbus, according to the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which unfolded near the Ingram Barge Company, has left multiple communities in mourning as details continue to emerge.

What Led to Deadly River Plunge

Authorities say the vehicle plunged into the river after striking a ramp at the barge facility. Employees at Ingram Barge Company first alerted law enforcement after hearing the impact and noticing signs that a vehicle had entered the water. Their quick action prompted an urgent multi-agency emergency response.

Rescue efforts began immediately, with teams working through the night to locate and recover the submerged vehicle. A diver from McCracken County Emergency Management played a critical role in securing the vehicle underwater, allowing crews to carry out a careful recovery operation under difficult conditions.

Initially, the identities of those inside the vehicle were unknown. By Monday, officials confirmed the victims as Joshua Watson, 42, of Louisville; Shranda Milan, 38, of Wingo; and Krista Whitt, 30, of Paducah. Authorities ensured that all families were notified before releasing their names publicly.

The loss has deeply impacted multiple communities across Kentucky, as loved ones and friends come to terms with the sudden and tragic nature of the accident. Each of the victims is being remembered for the lives they lived and the connections they shared with those around them.

The cause of the crash remains under active investigation. Officials have not yet determined what led the vehicle to strike the ramp and enter the river, and they are continuing to examine all possible factors, including road conditions, visibility, and vehicle dynamics.

The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to all agencies involved in the response, including Kentucky State Police and local recovery teams, whose coordinated efforts were essential in managing the scene and recovering the victims.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on supporting the grieving families and honoring the memory of those lost. The tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can change and the importance of vigilance and safety on the road.
