Tasha K Launches $3.5M GoFundMe to Pay Cardi B Defamation Judgment, Early Donations Spark Online Debate
Tasha K launches a GoFundMe seeking $3.5M to help pay a defamation judgment owed to Cardi B after losing a high-profile court case.
The long-running legal battle between rapper Cardi B and gossip vlogger Tasha K has taken another dramatic turn, as the online personality has turned to public fundraising in an effort to chip away at a multimillion-dollar court judgment. Tasha K, whose real name is Latasha Kebe, recently launched a GoFundMe campaign asking supporters to help her reduce the financial burden stemming from the highly publicized defamation case that has followed her for years.
The fundraiser, titled “Stand with Tasha K to Move Forward,” seeks to raise 3.5 million dollars, the amount she still owes after losing the lawsuit filed by Cardi B. As of early Sunday, the campaign had collected a little over five thousand dollars from more than two hundred donors. While the early contributions represent only a small fraction of the goal, the campaign immediately sparked intense debate across social media about accountability, online commentary, and the risks that come with viral gossip content.
In a message posted on the fundraising page, Kebe addressed her supporters directly, explaining that she is already making significant monthly payments ordered by the court. According to her statement, she currently pays twenty thousand dollars each month toward the judgment from her income and plans to continue doing so regardless of how much the fundraiser ultimately generates. She emphasized that the campaign is meant to help reduce the remaining balance rather than replace the payments she is already obligated to make.
Kebe also attempted to reassure potential donors by promising transparency about how any contributions would be used. She said she intends to release quarterly financial updates detailing how the funds are applied to the judgment balance. The vlogger framed the campaign as a way for supporters who believe in her to help her move forward from a legal battle that has significantly impacted her finances and online career.
Adding a personal touch to the appeal, Kebe described the fundraiser as the only birthday gift she is asking for this year. She also hinted that a separate crowdfunding project could follow, potentially through a Kickstarter campaign tied to merchandise and other incentives for supporters who want to contribute to rebuilding her platform and brand.
The legal case that led to the massive financial judgment dates back to 2019, when Cardi B filed a lawsuit accusing Tasha K of spreading false and damaging claims in a series of YouTube videos. The rapper argued that the statements harmed her reputation, caused emotional distress, and exposed her to harassment. The lawsuit quickly became one of the most closely watched defamation cases involving online influencers and celebrity commentary.
In 2022, a federal jury ultimately sided with Cardi B, concluding that several of the statements made by Kebe were defamatory. The verdict awarded the Grammy-winning artist more than four million dollars in damages, a figure that included compensation for reputational harm as well as punitive damages intended to discourage similar conduct in the future.
Even after filing for bankruptcy protection, Kebe was unable to eliminate the debt tied to the defamation ruling. A judge later approved a structured repayment plan that requires consistent payments over several years, prioritizing repayment to Cardi B. As the GoFundMe campaign gains attention online, the situation highlights the high-stakes consequences that can arise when internet commentary crosses the line into legally actionable claims.
