The Motueka community and the Motueka Cricket Club are mourning the heartbreaking loss of TK Hadzhikostov, a young cricketer whose passion, energy, and joyful spirit left a lasting impact on everyone around him. Though his life was far too short, TK’s love for the game and his dedication to his teammates inspired all who knew him.
From his first Friday night cricket session three years ago, it was clear that TK had found something he truly loved. Cricket became his happy place—a space where his enthusiasm, determination, and natural talent shone. Week after week, he showed up with excitement, ready to learn, practice, and grow as a player, earning the admiration of coaches, teammates, and supporters alike.
TK was known around the club for his pride in wearing his treasured number 12 shirt and his infectious sense of fun and confidence on the field. Whether at training, games, or casual moments with friends, his presence lifted spirits and brought joy to those around him. His love for the sport even extended into everyday life, from dressing up as a cricket player for school events to emulating his cricket heroes at home.
A highlight of TK’s cricket journey came this season when he joined the club’s first-ever machine ball cricket team, playing “proper cricket” alongside friends and teammates. Earlier this year, he was thrilled when players from the Central Stags and Central Hinds visited the club, and he proudly shared the memory of catching one of the visiting players out—a moment he cherished deeply.
As a devoted fan of the Central Stags and the Blackcaps, TK drew inspiration from players like Ajaz Patel, studying highlights of his performances and recording his own spin bowling to refine his technique. His commitment and curiosity for improvement exemplified his passion and determination, making him a role model for younger players.
TK’s joyful personality, dedication, and love for cricket made him a beloved member of the Motueka Cricket Club. His teammates, coaches, and the wider cricket community will deeply miss his energy, curiosity, and the happiness he brought to the game.
As the community grieves, their thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with TK’s family during this incredibly difficult time. May the memories of his bright spirit, his devotion to cricket, and the joy he shared continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
His legacy, though brief, reminds the Motueka Cricket Club and community of the profound impact one young life can have through passion, kindness, and enthusiasm.
