CHP Investigates Fatal I-805 Shoulder Incident That Claimed Life of San Diego Lawyer Barrick Lo

 A San Diego family is mourning the devastating loss of Barrick Lo, a 48-year-old attorney and father of three who died following an alleged hit-and-run on Interstate 805. The tragic incident unfolded on Feb. 12 after what authorities described as a minor traffic collision that quickly escalated into a fatal encounter.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Lo had just picked up his two daughters, ages 7 and 9, from a fencing class and was driving southbound on Interstate 805 toward the 805-52 interchange to meet his wife and 5-year-old son. A vehicle behind him reportedly bumped his car, prompting both drivers to pull onto the freeway shoulder to exchange insurance information.

Family friend Peggy Mok told KGTV that Lo’s 9-year-old daughter watched as her father approached the other driver’s window. Moments later, the situation turned chaotic. Mok said the other motorist appeared to attempt to leave the scene, first backing up and then allegedly driving forward toward Lo. During the encounter, Lo’s head struck the edge of the roadway.

Emergency responders transported Lo to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for several days. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a grieving wife and three young children. Authorities confirmed his death was linked to injuries sustained in the roadside incident.

Investigators later located a Nissan Pathfinder believed to be involved in the crash. Authorities arrested Lawrence Wynn, 57, in connection with the case. Prosecutors said Wynn has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including murder. Court records indicate he has a prior serious felony conviction, which could expose him to harsher sentencing under California’s three-strikes law if convicted.

The case has drawn widespread attention across San Diego, not only because of its tragic circumstances but also because Lo was well known in legal and community circles. Friends described him as a devoted husband, dedicated regulatory attorney, and loyal friend whose kindness left a lasting impact on colleagues and clients alike.
