The Roanoke Rapids Police Department (RRPD) is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of February 8, 2026, in the parking lot of the Kirkwood Adams Civic Center, located at the intersection of 11th Street and Hamilton Street.
According to authorities, responding officers arrived at the scene and observed an individual later identified as Willie Holmes fleeing the area. Officers pursued Holmes and detained him near the intersection of 11th and Jackson Streets. During the detention, police reported that Holmes was found in possession of a firearm.
The victim, identified as Priscilla Kee, sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. She was transported to ECU Medical Center for emergency treatment but later succumbed to her injuries. Investigators say the shooting stemmed from an argument between Kee and Holmes, though officials have not yet released further details about what led to the confrontation.
Holmes has been formally charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently being held at the Halifax County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
