With great sorrow, we announce the death of Valentin "Val" Hunsicker, a committed firefighter, EMT, and well-liked member of both the Milford Fire Department and the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad. Val, who had deep roots in Sparta, New Jersey, and Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, was a selfless and brave first responder who touched the lives of many via his communal work.
Known for his kindness, job ethics, and dedication to helping others, Val became an EMT while serving with the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad. Val would come back often to pick up shifts and assist the Hopatcong neighborhood even though he later moved to Milford, Pennsylvania. Even as he relocated to a fresh home and life in Pennsylvania, his commitment to his job as a first responder never wavered.
Val grew his service in Milford to become a firefighter with the Milford Fire Department. His contributions to the community and the department were beyond calculation. Heartfelt tributes from both the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad and the Matamoras Fire Department Station 32 show how deeply Val's passing affects his colleagues first responders.
This morning our team was devastated to hear of Valentin Hunsicker's death. While at Hopatcong, Val had become an EMT and would return to grab shifts with us even though he had relocated to Milford, PA. He also became a firefighter after relocating to Pennsylvania. Our thoughts go out to his family and the Milford Fire Team. May he find peace. We'll get it from here, brother.”
Expressing their support for the Milford Fire Department, the Matamoras Fire Department Station 32 said, "We stand with our brothers and sisters of the Milford Fire Department as they mourn the loss of member Valentin Hunsicker. Knowing what a committed department member he was and how well he served his community might bring some tranquility for his friends and family. May he rest in peace.
