The Richmond, Illinois area is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Jose Angel Gonzalez, 50, of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, who was found dead after his vehicle left the roadway on Tuesday morning. Authorities have confirmed that Gonzalez suffered a medical event that led to the crash, marking an unexpected and heartbreaking end to his life.
Emergency responders from the Richmond Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene near 374th Avenue and State Line Road around 6:52 a.m. Reports indicate that Gonzalez’s black 2012 GMC Terrain SUV had left the roadway on County Highway HM on the Wisconsin side, crossing State Line Road and coming to rest approximately 50 yards into Illinois in a conservation area. An off-duty member of the Twin Lakes Fire Department and Rescue Squad was already providing lifesaving measures when first responders arrived. Despite advanced life support care and extensive efforts from emergency personnel, Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Assistance Team found no evidence that alcohol, drugs, or speeding played a role in the incident. Coroner Dr. Michael Rein stated that Gonzalez had no apparent injuries from the collision itself, indicating that a sudden medical event caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
