The Lakeland community is mourning the loss of 23-year-old Jeremiah David MacDonald following a fatal single-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the rollover accident occurred around 6:19 p.m. on February 17, 2026, at the intersection of North Church Avenue (State Road 37) and NE 5th Street. Deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue personnel responded after receiving reports of a serious crash.
When first responders arrived, they found MacDonald with severe injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed he was driving a white 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound when the vehicle struck a curb, causing it to spin and flip multiple times. MacDonald was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the SUV during the rollover.
The roadway was closed for nearly three hours while investigators and emergency personnel processed the scene. The crash remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
