Richmond Mass Shooting in Shockoe Bottom Kills Genesis Tamar Jones, Dominic Antoine Jackson, Injures Seven

 The Richmond, Virginia, community is reeling from a tragic mass shooting in the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood that claimed two lives and left seven others injured early Saturday morning. The victims, 23-year-old Genesis Tamar Jones of Petersburg and 42-year-old Dominic Antoine Jackson of Henrico, were pronounced dead following a violent escalation of a street fight that authorities say occurred shortly after bars closed in the area.

According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 2:47 a.m. on North 18th Street. An officer already in the vicinity witnessed a large street fight and speeding vehicles before discovering Jones suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Jackson was later confirmed as the second fatality.

Police reported that nine individuals, ranging in age from 23 to 42, sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. Among the wounded, four men and three women suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while one woman was reported in critical condition. Four victims were transported by ambulance, while three others arrived at hospitals via private vehicles.

Investigators say the confrontation began as a street fight between two groups and escalated when multiple participants drew firearms. Authorities recovered more than 50 shell casings at the scene and are reviewing surveillance footage and videos taken by bystanders to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and police are urging anyone with information to contact Major Crimes Detective J. DeBoard or Crime Stoppers.
