Renee Zellweger and her partner Ant Anstead are facing a civil lawsuit following an alleged injury sustained by a guest at their Laguna Beach rental property in August 2024. Tracey Bryn Belland claims she tripped on a patio rug covering a hole, resulting in a serious knee injury.

In her complaint, Belland alleges that Zellweger, Anstead, and the property owner, Glenn Alan Wilson, were negligent, claiming ongoing physical, emotional, and financial harm from the incident. The lawsuit seeks damages for medical costs, pain and suffering, and other losses related to the fall.

Zellweger and Anstead jointly denied the allegations in a response filed in June 2025, asserting that Zellweger had no legal responsibility as she was not listed on the lease and that Anstead had properly fulfilled his duties as a tenant. Meanwhile, Wilson filed a cross‑complaint, contending that Anstead bore sole responsibility for maintaining the property and accusing both defendants of breaching contract terms and failing to act in good faith. He is seeking reimbursement for attorney’s fees and legal expenses, further complicating the case.

Court records indicate the matter is scheduled for a jury trial on June 22, 2026. Zellweger and Anstead, who met in 2021 while filming Celebrity IOU: Joyride, moved into a new home in 2023 after Anstead sold his previous Laguna Beach residence.

While the couple’s relationship has remained stable, this lawsuit highlights the legal complexities that can arise from rental agreements and property maintenance obligations. Legal experts note that cases involving injuries at rental properties often hinge on lease agreements, tenant responsibilities, and landlord duties, making the upcoming trial closely watched in the local legal community.

The outcome will determine liability and could have implications for property owners and tenants navigating similar disputes in California.
