Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigates Death of 89-Year-Old Carole Kleber in Single-Vehicle Accident

 An 89-year-old woman who had been reported missing from west Toledo was found dead Thursday morning following a single-vehicle crash in Wood County, Ohio, authorities confirmed.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash was reported shortly before 8 a.m. near East Broadway Street and Genoa Road. Responding troopers discovered a maroon-colored vehicle in a ditch at the scene. Emergency crews confirmed that the elderly female occupant inside the vehicle was deceased. She was later identified as Carole Kleber.

Officials confirmed that Kleber had been reported missing by Toledo police on Wednesday. After troopers identified the victim, authorities determined she was the same person who had been the subject of the missing person report.

A homeowner who lives near the crash site told investigators that the vehicle was not present when they returned home around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. This detail led troopers to estimate that the crash likely occurred sometime between 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday.

Preliminary findings indicate that only one vehicle was involved in the crash. Authorities stated that speed and impairment do not appear to have been contributing factors. Investigators at the scene speculated that Kleber may not have realized the roadway ended at a “T” intersection. They believe she may have attempted to turn too late, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter the ditch.
