A fatal motorcycle crash in Asheville has left one man dead and resulted in criminal charges against a local driver, authorities confirmed.
According to the Asheville Police Department, the collision occurred February 13 at the intersection of Eliada Home Road and New Leicester Highway. Investigators said 27-year-old Tylor Russell Holzhauser was riding a 2024 Kawasaki ER-650 southbound on New Leicester Highway when a 2013 Toyota Prius, driven by 56-year-old Jennifer Louise Saylor of Asheville, turned left onto Eliada Home Road directly into his path.
Police said the vehicles collided, ejecting Holzhauser from the motorcycle. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that his next of kin have been notified.
New Leicester Highway was closed in both directions for several hours while officers processed the scene and gathered evidence. Following consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, Saylor was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and unsafe movement.
Saylor was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. Officials have not indicated whether additional charges are pending, stating that the investigation remains active.
Friends and family of Holzhauser have expressed grief over the sudden loss. A GoFundMe campaign established to assist with funeral expenses had raised nearly $7,000 as of Thursday, reflecting strong community support during a difficult time.
Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant information to contact the Asheville Police Department. Authorities say updates will be provided as the review progresses.
