The Lake City community is mourning the heartbreaking and unexpected loss of 13-year-old Wyatt Mosher, a student at Lake City Middle School, who passed away on Feb. 16, 2026.
School officials and community members confirmed Wyatt’s sudden death, describing him as a well-liked and energetic student who made a lasting impression on classmates and teachers. Tim Hejnal, a school representative, said Wyatt was actively involved in athletics, participating in wrestling, football, and basketball. His enthusiasm for sports and school activities made him a familiar and admired presence on campus.
Family friend Mistie Martin told 9&10 News that Wyatt died due to complications from Influenza B. According to Martin, Wyatt had asthma, which significantly contributed to the severity of his illness. “His passing was due to complications from Influenza B. Mosher had asthma, and that was made a big part of the complication,” she said, as the community offered prayers and support to the grieving family.
A celebration of life has been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, at Lake City High School at 1 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear Detroit Lions gear in honor of Wyatt’s love for football. Organizers say the event will be an opportunity for friends, classmates, and community members to come together, share memories, and celebrate his life.
In the wake of his passing, a GoFundMe campaign titled “Support for Mollie After Wyatt’s Passing” has been launched to assist his family, particularly his mother Mollie, with funeral and related expenses. As of Thursday, the fundraiser had raised $12,000 toward its $14,000 goal, reflecting an outpouring of generosity from friends, neighbors, and even strangers moved by Wyatt’s story.
Organizers Kevin Proctor and Mollye Roy described Wyatt as a young boy who “filled every room with energy and laughter.” They noted his pride in being a big brother, always looking out for his younger siblings. Tributes shared across social media highlight his kindness, humor, and competitive spirit on the field and mat.
As Lake City grieves, the community continues to rally around Wyatt’s family, offering emotional and financial support during an unimaginably difficult time. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew him, remembered for his bright spirit, love of sports, and devotion to family.
