A rural Tippecanoe County community is mourning the tragic loss of Jacob “Jake” Alan Mahan, 27, of Delphi, who died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning.
According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 2 a.m. on February 9 to a crash at the intersection of State Road 26 East and North 900 East in Lafayette. Authorities reported that Jake was driving a GMC Yukon when the vehicle crashed. He was ejected during the incident and was later found deceased in a nearby field. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
Jake was a 2017 graduate of William Henry Harrison High School and worked as a window and door glazier for Central Indiana Glass, according to his obituary. Those who knew him describe a hardworking young man who took pride in his craft and was dedicated to providing for his family.
Beyond his professional life, Jake was remembered most for his loving heart and devotion to those closest to him. His wife, Sydney Mahan, shared an emotional tribute on social media, reflecting on her husband’s loving spirit and the deep void his passing has left in their family. His mother, Val Mahan, also expressed profound grief while honoring her son’s kindness and the joy he brought into their lives.
Jake is survived by his wife, his parents, and his children — Charlotte Mahan, Jace Giddens, Jarrett Giddens, and Judson Rouhier — who now face life without a devoted husband and father. Family members and friends have been sharing memories and messages of support, remembering Jake as someone who cared deeply, loved fiercely, and always showed up for the people who mattered most.
Visitation and funeral services are scheduled for February 16-17 at Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette, where loved ones will gather to honor and celebrate his life.
As the investigation into the crash continues, the focus for many remains on supporting Jake’s grieving family and remembering the impact he made in his 27 years. His memory will live on through the love he gave and the lives he touched.
