The Long Beach community is mourning the tragic loss of four young people, including siblings Amber and Brian Delgado, who died in a fiery single-car crash on Lakewood Boulevard near Long Beach Airport early February 21. According to authorities, the 2008 Honda Accord was traveling southbound from Spring Street around 1:20 a.m. when it struck a center median curb, lost control, and collided with an underpass support wall. The vehicle burst into flames, trapping three occupants inside, while Amber Delgado, 22, of Huntington Park, was found outside the car and died despite lifesaving efforts.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as Amber Delgado, who died of blunt force trauma; her brother Brian Delgado, 28, who suffered blunt force trauma, burns, and smoke inhalation; Isabel Acevedo, 22; and Caleb Gainer, 22. All four deaths were ruled accidental. Authorities are investigating speed and possible impairment as contributing factors, and the National Transportation Safety Board plans to review the crash site for potential safety concerns.
Amber Delgado, a Biola University student, was known in her Huntington Park community for her bright spirit and dedication to her studies. Her death, along with that of her brother and friends, has left families, classmates, and neighbors devastated. Tributes poured in on social media, highlighting the lives, dreams, and close bonds of the young victims. Friends described the group as inseparable, and their sudden loss has had a profound impact on those who knew them.
In the wake of the tragedy, the community has rallied to support the families. A GoFundMe established for the Delgado siblings raised over $24,000 as of Thursday to assist with funeral and recovery costs. Additional fundraisers have honored Caleb Gainer, identified as Amber’s boyfriend, and Isabel Acevedo, described as a close friend of the group. These efforts reflect the solidarity and compassion of the Long Beach community in the face of sudden loss.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Witnesses who may have seen the accident are asked to contact Long Beach Police Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at (562) 570-7355 or LA Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477. Authorities aim to gather all relevant information to determine the exact factors that led to this devastating incident and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Delgado family and friends of the victims now face the difficult task of grieving while honoring the memories of their loved ones. Amber and Brian Delgado, along with Caleb Gainer and Isabel Acevedo, are remembered for their vibrant personalities, close friendships, and the joy they brought to those around them. In a community united in sorrow, their legacy serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with family and friends.
