The Washington, D.C. community and supporters nationwide have rallied around the family of Rayven Amuan Edwards, a 34‑year‑old mother who was fatally shot in a domestic violence incident last week, with a GoFundMe campaign raising more than $29,000 as of Saturday toward a $100,000 goal.

DC Mom Fatally Shot by Estranged Boyfriend

The fundraiser was launched on Feb. 14 by family friend Lucy Minnick to help cover funeral expenses, medical care, therapy, legal costs, custody support, and daily needs for Edwards’ three young children, all of whom were present during the tragic attack in the 4100 block of W Street Northwest in the Glover Park neighborhood.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, officers responded around 4:39 p.m. on Feb. 11 to find Edwards suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 10‑year‑old daughter, Royal, was also shot and taken to a hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries.

The suspect, 35‑year‑old Stephon Marquis Jeter, the estranged boyfriend and father of the couple’s 3‑year‑old son Million, fled the scene in a black pickup truck. A pursuit followed into Maryland and back into Southeast D.C., where he ultimately died of an apparent self‑inflicted gunshot wound after crashing the vehicle, police reported. Authorities said the shooting stemmed from ongoing domestic violence between the estranged parents.

According to the GoFundMe organizers, Edwards battled lupus and chronic kidney disease and underwent dialysis, which had prevented her from securing life insurance — leaving her family vulnerable after her passing. The fundraiser notes that additional support is needed to ensure stability for her children, including counseling to help them process the trauma they witnessed.

Minnick wrote on the campaign page that Edwards “gave everything she had to her children,” stressing the importance of filling both immediate financial gaps and long‑term needs like legal assistance and mental health care. Supporters, neighbors, and strangers alike have contributed to the campaign, with many offering prayers, condolences, and messages of encouragement for the grieving family.

As the community continues to mourn this devastating loss, the fundraiser remains active in hopes of reaching its goal and securing a foundation of care for Edwards’ children during this difficult chapter of their lives.
