A second officer was also wounded in the incident and was transported to Eskenazi Hospital; authorities reported that this officer remains in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Suspect Kenneth Terrell Johnson Arrested

Indiana State Police issued a Blue Alert for 47-year-old Kenneth Terrell Johnson, described as a 6-foot-tall Black male weighing 165 pounds with brown hair and eyes. Johnson was armed and reportedly wearing a royal blue hoodie at the time of the incident. Residents were urged to shelter in place during the manhunt, which involved multiple agencies including Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indiana State Police. The suspect was later captured by IMPD SWAT late Monday, bringing the tense search to an end.

Chief Michael Maurice described the department as “heartbroken,” posting online: “Rest in peace, Officer Elliott. EOW: 02/16/2026.” Colleagues and community members have expressed shock and grief over the death of a young officer who had dedicated himself to protecting the city he grew up in.
