The Corpus Christi community is mourning the loss of Donovan Encinia, an 18-year-old who was fatally shot on February 16, 2026, at a residence on the 1900 block of Secretariat Drive.
According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, officers responded around 3 p.m. after reports of a shooting. Encinia was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and received immediate first aid before being transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators reported that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over services being performed at the home. “It was later determined that there was a disturbance over services rendered and a weapon was produced,” said Madeleine Commons, Public Information Officer for the department. At least two individuals were detained for questioning, including witnesses present during the incident.
Authorities observed 12 shell casings at the scene. Police have not yet confirmed who fired the weapon, whether Encinia was the worker or homeowner, or if a firearm was recovered. Officials emphasized that the incident appears isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood.
The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Encinia as the victim. Investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews, with charges pending the outcome of the ongoing review.
Family, friends, and the Corpus Christi community are grappling with this tragic loss, while law enforcement urges anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
