 The Pima County community is grappling with the shocking death of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, whose life ended violently in her own home amid a family dispute that authorities now say may have turned deadly. Guthrie was discovered with blunt-force trauma injuries, prompting a multi-agency investigation that quickly drew public attention and speculation. Weeks after initially denying involvement, her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was taken into custody and has reportedly confessed, according to law enforcement sources.

In the early days following Guthrie’s death, authorities faced widespread confusion. Advanced technology was also deployed during the search, including a “signal sniffer” device attached to a sheriff’s helicopter, capable of detecting signals from Guthrie’s pacemaker. The aircraft flew low and slowly over targeted areas, though the investigation eventually shifted focus from search-and-rescue to homicide.
