Funeral arrangements have been made for Samy Guijosa, an 18-year-old resident of Gilbert whose death has caused grief among his family, friends, and the Batesburg-Leesville area.
The funeral for Samy Guijosa is set for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church located in Batesburg. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Priceville Road Cemetery in Gilbert. People can pay their respects during visitation on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel.
Samy passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. He was born on August 27, 2007, in Lexington County, South Carolina, to parents Alvaro Guijosa and Lucia Pablo. He graduated from Gilbert High School in December 2024 and was actively involved in the St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Batesburg.
Highly regarded in the Gilbert area, Samy was a friendly and recognizable figure at his family’s establishment, La Mesa Mexican Restaurant, where he served as a host and waiter. Patrons and friends recall him for his vibrant personality, lively energy, and strong self-assurance. Outside his professional life, Samy had a passion for fishing, staying fit, and weightlifting, interests that portrayed his dynamic and enthusiastic character.
Those who were nearest to him describe Samy as spirited and candid, possessing a large personality and a playful sense of humor. Most importantly, he held a deep affection for his family and friends, particularly sharing a close relationship with his mother. His unexpected passing has created an enormous absence in the lives of those who knew him well.
Samy is survived by his parents, Alvaro Guijosa and Lucia Pablo, along with his brothers, Ismael Guijosa, Osvaldo Guijosa, and Ronaldo Guijosa.
