The east side of Springfield was permanently altered by a violent incident that claimed the life of 23-year-old Ceyion Forrest in the still hours of Wednesday morning. As family, friends, and whole community started to grieve the untimely death of a young life taken far too soon, what should have been an usual day became one defined by heartbreak, grief, and unanswered questions.
Around 9:56 a.m., Springfield Police Division officers went to reports of a shooting at Middle Street 1000.When they arrived, they found Ceyion Forrest wounded by a firearm. He was sent to Springfield Regional Medical Center where, notwithstanding the best attempts of the medical staff, he passed away from his wounds. The news of his death struck waves of sadness in those who knew and loved him.
Authorities claim a suspect—20-year-old Douglas Hall Jr.—was found soon after the event and arrested peacefully.Facing murder and felonious assault allegations, he is now incarcerated in the Clark County Jail.Nothing can erase the suffering of this loss or replace the emptiness Ceyion's death left behind as the probe goes on and the legal process develops.
Details made public in court documents and emergency calls provide a profoundly disturbing image of the events before the murder. After two guys got engaged in a physical fight, a woman who dialed 911 reported to dispatchers her boyfriend had been shot. She said that before the fatal shot was shot, the gun was taken from her bedroom. Most tragically, she said two infants were in the house at the time, innocent lives amid unbelievable mayhem and terror.
Witness statements show the suspect entered the house and left during the emergency call before eventually escaping into a restroom as police arrived.Officers then took him into custody, bringing a tense and terrible scene to an end—but leaving behind devastation that will linger for years.
