Navpreet Dhaliwal Abbotsford, BC Shooting Update: Authorities Report Gangster Shot Dead in Abbotsford Incident.
The community in Abbotsford, British Columbia, experienced a shock on Friday afternoon due to a deadly shooting that took place in a home in west Abbotsford, an event that has revived concerns about persistent gang-related violence in the area. Authorities confirmed that the deceased individual was Navpreet Dhaliwal, a man who had a long history with law enforcement and was previously noted for his connections to organized crime in B.C.
According to police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, officers from the Abbotsford Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at a residence in the 3200 block of Siskin Drive shortly after 12:35 p.m. Upon entering the home, they found a man in critical condition. Despite emergency personnel’s attempts to assist on-site, the man could not be revived.
Sgt. Walker indicated that the residence had prior recognition from law enforcement, affirming that the victim had significant associations with gang operations in the Lower Mainland. Subsequent reports identified the man as Dhaliwal, who had been the focus of a public safety alert issued by the Abbotsford police in August 2024.
This alert was issued after Dhaliwal had been granted bail while awaiting trial for serious offenses. At that point, police warned that both Dhaliwal and another local individual, Anmol Sandhu, were considered a considerable threat to community safety. Concerns arose since both were set to live in west Abbotsford, alarming both investigators and local residents.
Dhaliwal and Sandhu emerged as central figures in a major drug trafficking investigation that began in late 2022. During this operation, law enforcement carried out several search warrants at various locations in Abbotsford and Surrey, confiscating several kilograms of illegal drugs such as fentanyl and cocaine, along with substantial amounts of money and firearms. The findings from this investigation initiated Project High Table, a focused effort looking into allegations of their involvement in coordinating a targeted murder.
In February 2024, both Dhaliwal and Sandhu were apprehended and faced charges of conspiracy to commit murder, alongside drug trafficking and firearm-related offenses. Dhaliwal was later released on bail in June 2024. Court records reveal that the property on Siskin Drive, where the shooting happened, was designated as a surety for his release.
After the shooting, the previously quiet residential area was met with a noticeable police presence. Siskin Drive was blocked off between Sandpiper Drive and Stellar Court for several hours while investigators worked to secure the location and collect evidence. Residents reported seeing the scene heavily surrounded by police vehicles and officers conducting searches in the vicinity.
