This incident has resulted in the death of one young woman, another fighting for her life, and a community in deep mourning.
As reported by the Bradenton Police Department, Keith Roberts Jr. has been taken into custody and faces charges of first-degree murder involving a firearm and attempted first-degree murder with a firearm in connection to the shooting. Investigators indicated that Roberts entered an office suite in the complex and shot his former girlfriend, Myshaela Burnham, fatally in her workplace. Additionally, an office employee who witnessed the incident was also shot and has been hospitalized, although her identity has not been disclosed.
Emergency services responded to reports of gunfire around 12:48 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers found two victims—one deceased and the other critically injured. The area was secured while forensic teams began gathering evidence, leading to the involvement of the Manatee Homicide Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigators.
Witnesses and those who called 911 reported observing a car leaving the vicinity shortly after the gunshots. The Bradenton Police swiftly traced the vehicle heading towards the DeSoto Bridge. With assistance from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Palmetto Police Department, the vehicle was intercepted in Palmetto around 1:12 p.m. The driver, confirmed to be Keith Roberts Jr., was arrested within 25 minutes following the event. He subsequently consented to an interview with homicide detectives and was officially taken into custody shortly before 6 p.m.
Authorities later verified that the office where the shooting took place is a lab processing facility.
