Lydia Barnes Obituary: Collinsville City Employee Dies in Fatal Car Accident Early Monday

 Early on Monday morning, Lydia Barnes, 28, a cherished City of Collinsville employee whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal collision, passed away to grief among the Collinsville community.

Just outside Collinsville city limits, in the 8000 block of FM 902, at about 7:00 a.m. the crash took place.The Texas Department of Public Safety claims Grayson Cates, 19, in a pickup vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with Lydia's compact car.

Emergency personnel arrived to find both motorists stuck inside their cars.Crews hurried to free them.Cates was flown to Medical City Denton for treatment after crippling injuries.Lydia, heading to her job, was trapped within her vehicle for more than an hour and sadly declared dead at the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is still looking into the events surrounding the accident.

In reaction to the horrible loss, Collinsville closed City Hall for the day and cancelled its planned city council meeting.City authorities released a statement stating in part, "It is with great sorrow that we are grappling this morning with the sudden passing of a cherished municipal employee."The municipal council meeting will be postponed to a later date.

While family, friends, coworkers, and the whole community mourn, Lydia Barnes is remembered for her devotion, compassion, and the life she lived, not the calamity that claimed her.
