Liverpool High School in lockdown mode after receiving a shooting threat. School officials have dismissed students early as a precaution. Stay informe
Liverpool High School released students at 12:30 p.m. today due to renewed worries about a threat initially recognized two days prior, according to the school officials.
District leaders first assessed the threat as unsubstantiated. However, Liverpool School Superintendent Richard Chapman indicated that rumors and speculation about the matter have since escalated, with reports of more detailed information surfacing.
In a correspondence addressed to the school community, Chapman mentioned that although no explicit details were shared publicly, the changing nature of the rumors raised concerns. He stated that the choice to send students home early stemmed from an excess of caution and was made after discussions with the New York State Police and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Additionally, all extracurricular activities scheduled for after school at the high school were canceled as part of the safety measures.
School authorities indicated that the rumors contained more focused aspects, including a specific timeframe linked to the alleged threat. It was this greater specificity in the rumors, rather than the initial report, that ultimately prompted the district's response.
District officials highlighted that ensuring the safety of students and staff is their primary concern and confirmed they will keep cooperating with law enforcement as the situation continues to be assessed.
