 Kelcey C. Wright, a resident of Riverdale, Georgia, has unfortunately passed away, leaving behind a significant legacy of excellence, leadership, and perseverance that had a deep impact on Albany State University and the larger community.

His death represents a sorrowful loss to his family, friends, classmates, mentors, and all individuals inspired by his remarkable academic success and personal qualities. Although his life was truncated, the influence he left behind continues to resonate profoundly with those who were close to him and those who benefitted from his example.

As a senior pursuing middle grades education at Albany State University, Kelcey embodied the essence of being a committed scholar and a devoted leader. He approached his academics with rigor, concentration, and a strong sense of duty, recognizing that education served not just as personal achievement but also as a means to uplift others.

Kelcey firmly held the belief in the life-changing potential of teaching and was eager to become an educator capable of shaping young minds, fostering self-assurance, and creating opportunities for future generations.

Kelcey’s dedication to excellence did not go unrecognized. On July 12, 2014, he received the distinction of Male Student of the Year at the HBCU Awards, which took place at Dillard University in New Orleans.

Organized alongside HBCU Media, the event honored exceptional students from historically Black colleges and universities from around the country.
