Isabel Marie Hepworth and Christopher Leonardo Avila Gomez Two young lives were lost in terrible Sampson County Highway 24 accident.
With great anguish, we assemble in memory and prayer following a horrible double fatality crash in Sampson County that took the lives of Christopher Leonardo Avila Gomez, 18, of Clinton, North Carolina, and Isabel Marie Hepworth, 19, of Faison, North Carolina, and implicated Timothy Andre Stedman, 45, of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, under investigation by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J. N. Bonhomme.
According to a North Carolina Highway Patrol press statement, the collision took place around 10:42 a.m. on NC Highway 24, roughly 1.9 miles east of Clinton. Trooper Bonhomme's inquiry uncovered a terrible chain of events that developed in a few of seconds.
Traveling westbound on NC24, a gray 2015 Honda Accord attempted to overtake a Toyota truck. The Honda went off the left side of the road during the move before re-entering it uncontrolled. The automobile entered the eastward lane and head-on hit a 2025 International semi-truck carrying an empty lowboy trailer. The impact was disastrous. While the tractor-trailer paused in the center of NC24 facing east, the Honda was forced off the road and came to rest in the north ditch.
The tractor-trailer's driver, Timothy Andre Stedman, escaped the crash unscathed. Regretfully, the Honda's driver and passenger passed away right away. In an instant that would forever alter their families and community, Christopher Leonardo Avila Gomez, only 18, and Isabel Marie Hepworth, barely 19, perished.
More than merely names in a report, Christopher and Isabel were young lives full of promise, love, and hope for the future. Those who knew them have an emptiness in their hearts that cannot be filled after their abrupt death. Friends grieve the loss of laughter and common goals, families now endure unfathomable pain, and a society comes together in mourning.
