The community of St. Charles County is coming together once more to offer support to the Karrenbrock family, who are enduring an unimaginable loss. Just over a year since the heartbreaking passing of their 9-year-old daughter, Penelope Kate, affectionately called “PK,” the family is now grieving the unexpected death of Doug Karrenbrock, the cherished husband and father.
In late 2024, the Karrenbrocks became the center of a massive display of love and support as PK valiantly battled cancer for nine months. Her inspiring journey was followed by close to 12,000 individuals on social media and showcased her strength, dignity, and remarkable bravery. As Doug and Megan Karrenbrock faced the pain of losing their daughter, they were surrounded by a community that consistently supported them. PK’s death created an emptiness in their lives and the St. Charles County community, where her lively spirit and zest for life had impacted numerous individuals.
As the Karrenbrocks started to find some peace following the loss of their daughter, another tragedy occurred. Doug, recognized for his vibrant personality and commitment to his family, suddenly experienced a severe medical issue. At the start of this year, friends and neighbors came together for a candlelight vigil at St. Joseph Hospital West, holding onto hope for a miracle. Sadly, on Tuesday evening, Megan conveyed the devastating news of Doug's passing. The community was once again engulfed in shock and grief.
Doug Karrenbrock was not just a husband and father; he played an active and committed role within the St. Charles County community, deeply engaged in the lives of those around him. He was recognized for his generosity, always ready to assist others. Whether he was coaching baseball, supporting community initiatives, or simply being a good neighbor, Doug was a reliable source of strength and motivation. He was the type of person who made others feel acknowledged and appreciated, consistently giving more to others than he received.
Desiree Walker, the proprietor of Walker Family Farms in Foristell, voiced the feelings of many when she remarked, “They are the supporters of everybody else’s cause.” The Karrenbrock family had consistently been present for others during difficult times, and now the community is reciprocating that support vigorously. People are stopping by the family’s residence to pray and organizing online support networks, resulting in a remarkable outpouring of love.
The Gators Baseball & Fastpitch Academy, in which Doug was significantly involved, also expressed their condolences, referring to Doug as "larger than life" and describing him as a man willing to do anything for those around him. The organization conveyed profound sorrow, recognizing that Doug’s absence will have a long-lasting effect on all who had the privilege of knowing him. “He is now reunited in Heaven with his daughter PK,” they stated.
Janna Christina, a family friend, reminisced about Doug’s influence as a devoted family member and a strong supporter of his community. “Doug exemplified what it means to be a family man,” she stated. “Be it coaching baseball, uplifting those around him, or being the type of neighbor on the farm that everyone was fortunate to have, he will be deeply missed yet never forgotten.”
As the Karrenbrock family endures this unimaginable second tragedy, the community’s assistance stands as evidence of the strength, love, and lasting impact Doug and Megan have made on the lives of everyone they encountered. The support and empathy presented during this challenging period mirrors the Karrenbrocks' own spirit of kindness and generosity.
