Catholic University of America Deadly Shooting: Campus Lockdown, Increased Law Enforcement Presence in Washington, DC

Authorities are looking into a report of gunfire at the Catholic University of America on Thursday afternoon following an altercation between two individuals, as stated by the Metropolitan Police Department.
This event took place on the 700 block of Monroe Street NE, within the university grounds. Officials from the MPD indicated that the shooting was a result of a disagreement between two persons. There have been no reports of injuries or damage to property.
Following the occurrence, Catholic University promptly issued a shelter-in-place directive as a safety measure while police conducted a search of the nearby area for the individual involved.
“The shelter-in-place order is in effect until we assess the situation,” the university communicated in a CUAlert notification. “DPS has just been alerted that a possible firearm discharge occurred near 7th and Monroe. DC Police and DPS are examining the neighborhood for that individual. Further updates will follow.”
MPD verified that officers are searching the vicinity around Monroe Street NE and collaborating with the university’s Department of Public Safety. Authorities have stated that there is currently no evidence suggesting the suspect is still on campus, but the shelter-in-place order was implemented as a precautionary measure.
Law enforcement reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and encouraged anyone with information about the situation to reach out to them. University representatives mentioned that further information will be communicated as it becomes available.
