We recall and salute Greenville, North Carolina young woman Cara Gardner with great sadness; her life was tragically cut short after a terrible Pitt County collision. Just 23 years old, Cara's death has left her family, friends, and community devastated and trying to make sense of a loss that arrived much too soon.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports that the fatal collision happened on Friday at roughly 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of NC Highway 118 and Cannon Price Road. Troopers claim Cara, driving a Toyota Camry, was trying to turn left from Cannon Price Road onto NC 118 westward when a log truck was going west. She forgot to give way and hit the log truck while doing this.
Log truck left the road, entered a ditch, and overturned as a result of the collision. Although emergency personnel reacted swiftly, Cara Gardner tragically passed away from the impact despite their best attempts. While investigators worked the scene and crews cleared logs spread across the route, the highway stayed closed for nearly three hours.
Although the specifics of the incident are unclear, today is about more than just what occurred; it is about who Cara was. She was a daughter, a loved one, a friend, and a bright young soul with all of her life ahead of her. At 23 she bore aspirations, goals, and dreams for the future, all of which were snatched in a flash. Those who knew her now have memories, pictures, and a strong sadness that words can't completely capture.
Particularly difficult is the unexpected death of someone so young. Cara's passing is a tragic reminder of the frailty of life and the speed with which things can alter. Countless times in daily situations and events that today bear her memory instead of her presence, her absence will be felt.
